Glossary of terms
An API, or Application Programming Interface, allows different systems and applications to communicate with each other. In eCommerce, APIs are commonly used to connect an online store with ERP systems, CRM platforms, marketplaces, payment providers, shipping carriers, and other external tools.
ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. It is a system used to manage key business processes such as inventory, accounting, sales, logistics, and order handling. Integrating an ERP system with an online store helps automate data exchange and improve order processing.
CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management. It is a system used to manage customer relationships, collect customer data, track purchase history, and organize communication. CRM software supports sales, marketing, and customer service activities.
PIM stands for Product Information Management. It is a system used to manage product data in one central place. A PIM makes it easier to organize product descriptions, images, technical parameters, and other product information across multiple sales channels.
PrestaShop is an open-source platform for building online stores. Its modular structure and wide integration capabilities make it possible to develop, customize, and scale eCommerce projects according to business needs.
Headless commerce is an eCommerce architecture that separates the frontend layer from the store backend. This approach allows businesses to build more flexible, faster, and more customized shopping experiences across different channels.
Core Web Vitals are a set of Google metrics used to measure the quality of user experience on a website. They focus on page loading speed, visual stability, and how quickly a page responds to user interactions.
Crawl budget refers to the number of pages Googlebot can crawl on a website within a given period of time. Optimizing crawl budget helps search engines discover and index the most important pages more efficiently.
Keyword cannibalization happens when several pages within the same domain compete for the same search queries in Google. This can weaken a website’s visibility and make it harder for the right page to rank well in search results.
Schema.org is a structured data standard used to mark up content on websites. It helps search engines better understand the content of a page and may improve visibility through rich snippets in search results.
SXO, or Search Experience Optimization, combines SEO and UX activities. Its goal is not only to improve visibility in Google, but also to create a better user experience and increase conversion rates.
UX, or User Experience, refers to how users feel and behave when interacting with a website or application. Well-designed UX improves usability, supports conversions, and helps an online store achieve better business results.
CRO stands for Conversion Rate Optimization. It is the process of improving a website to increase the percentage of users who complete a desired action, such as making a purchase or submitting a contact form.
Multistore is a feature that allows multiple online stores to be managed from a single administration panel. It is often used in larger eCommerce projects, especially when a business operates several brands, markets, or language versions.
Middleware is an intermediary layer between different IT systems. In eCommerce, middleware is often responsible for synchronizing data between an online store and systems such as ERP, PIM, marketplaces, or logistics platforms.
Faceted navigation is a product filtering system that allows users to narrow down products by attributes such as price, color, size, brand, or category. If implemented incorrectly, faceted navigation can create SEO problems, especially through duplicate URLs.
Thin content refers to pages with very little valuable or unique content. Such pages may negatively affect the overall quality of a website and limit its visibility in Google search results.
Internal linking is the system of links between pages within the same domain. It helps users and search engine crawlers navigate the website and supports the flow of SEO authority between pages.
Technical SEO covers technical improvements that affect a website’s indexing, performance, and search visibility. It includes areas such as page speed, URL structure, structured data, XML sitemaps, crawlability, and website architecture.
A marketplace is an online sales platform where multiple sellers can offer their products in one place, such as Amazon, eBay, or Allegro. Integrating an online store with marketplaces can help increase sales reach and automate multichannel sales.
